Intelligent Content Control - Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is the filter 100% effective?
No. There's no current product on the market which can effectively filter the Internet to be entirely "clean". We recommend that parents and employers play an active role in their children/employees Internet use. Note: bright.net is not responsible if a subscriber is still able to access potentially harmful materials.

  2. What if the filter isn't filtering a site that I believe is harmful?
If you browse to a page you feel should be blocked, submit the URL to us at help@bright.net, and we will have the page reviewed.

  3. What if the filter filters a site I know is safe?
If a site is blocked and you think it should not be, just notify us at
help@bright.net and we will have the page reviewed.

  4. How do I sign up for bright.net filtering?
Give us a call at 1-888-438-8436.

  5. How much does it cost?
The ICC filtering is available at no additional charge.

  6. How do I setup filtering?
When you call your local bright.net billing office you will be setup with a master account. You will indicate your bright.net username and a password separate from your bright.net login password. From there you can select from five levels of filtering and add different passwords for each level.

  7. Is filtering activated immediately?
The filtering process takes approximately 15 minutes from completing sign-up. The user will need to disconnect his/her connection and then reconnect. At the point of reconnection, the web filter will be activated.

  8. What determines the level of access to a site?
Everyone in your household or business will be logged in using the same bright.net filtering username. The level of access will depend upon the password used when accessing websites, ftp sites, and news groups. You can setup different levels of access and passwords at the filter level management page

  9. How many sets of rules can I have for my account?
A bright.net filtering account can have four different rules apply to each level.

  10. How do I setup multiple access levels for filtering?
To setup multiple levels of access visit the
    filter level management page
NOTE:You will want to do this in private, as the master password will be displayed on the page.

  11. I just got blocked from viewing a webpage. How do I override the block?
To override the block you will need to have the master password to login and override the filter.
